Film: Wine Country (comedy)

NO SPOILERS!!
Director: Amy Poehler
Year: 2019
Recommended: No.

I think this movie is boring, the acting is average, and it tries to be funny but it is not. I wanted to watch this film because it reminded me when I was hanging out with my friends back in Colombia; having a drink with my little “gang”, speaking about my feelings, singing silly songs out loud! Such great memories!.

So, I had big expectations as the cast seemed to be decent. Unfortunately, after 40 minutes, I was completely disinterested. But my time wasn’t a complete waste. This movie worked as a mirror in which you can reflect how old you are and how different you were 20 years ago; the reflexion will show you how your life has changed leaving you powerless to do anything about it. Now you need to use antiwrinkle masks every week, take pills to relieve the pressure, drink just one or two glasses of wine (when you used to drink at least a bottle). So, you open your eyes to reality and realise that you are responsible for making yourself happy, and happiness is not the same as it used to be.

Noteworthy quotations from this film:

  • “…From one old lady to another, get over all your shit, ‘cause it is later than you think”.
  • Abby: “… I lost my job, all right? And it’s really stupid to even cry about it. Shit, I mean, people are starving in the world, and there are earthquakes, and people are shooting at each other, and I’m crying about my stupid poor job…. Val: “…that doesn’t mean that your feelings aren’t valid.”
